Food. Life. Laughs. Ramblings. Of A Tongue-in-Cheek Mom
The year that wasn’t
January 8, 2020
Late to the party again! So here we are, a whole week into the new year! I had all the good intentions of writing a year-end post to rant (mostly) and rave about the year just gone by, as I’ve done in the past. But then, I got caught up with a whole bunch of other stuff (none of which has to do with Chinese New Year by the way, in case you’re wondering).
At any rate, I thought it best to hold my tongue and simply let bygones be bygones. Might as well move on. No use griping over what’s water under the bridge now. Can’t change what’s past. That said, I did happen to overhear more than one person lamenting that 2019 wasn’t a good year for them. 2019? What are you talking about? That’s long gone. Or is it? I think there’s a part of me that hasn’t quite transitioned over yet lol.
So then, as is to be expected with any given year, there will be good days and bad days. Tears of joy, tears of disappointment; people coming, people going; successes, failures; that’s life. Like it or not, this is what we all have to go through regardless. And 2019 might just have been one of those years where there was a higher ratio of not-so-good days to good days *shrugs*. We just have to accept that and move on…
… but you know, sometimes after the rain clouds have passed and the skies clear up, something positive, and unexpected, might pop up right before your very eyes and suddenly you’re back in business again. Just like that! Every cloud has a silver lining, they say and it’s up to us to recognize that hey, this is life handing me something extraordinary, seize it with both hands and run with it.
When life brings you down, the important thing to remember is: don’t give up, stay strong and something will turn up. You may be down but you’re not out. You know why? Because nothing in life is permanent and this too shall pass, and that includes both the bad, and the good times. Yup, even if life is going great right now, there’s no guarantee it won’t throw you some curve balls. It goes both ways. That’s life *shrugs*.
And this is how my decades-old interest in Buddhism was reignited. I became more serious about meditating, and getting into the thick of the sutras, and as I dug deeper, I began to realize the incredible depth and wisdom of the Buddha’s teachings.
Man, I should’ve started sooner, much sooner, like decades ago when I was a teenager in the school library after school exploring the religions of the world. Still, it’s never too late. As long as you get started (on anything, for that matter), you’re on your way. It’s better than turning your back and never having started. Make sense? I thought so, yup.
These days, it’s like I’ve gone back to school. And because I love school, I’m excited to be seriously hitting the books again. So if I forget to blog, you know why. There’s so much to learn and practice. Hi ho, Silver! And that, in a nutshell, is 2019 when my life as a student in the Buddha’s School grew wings and took off.
So now, where was I? Will be back to regular programming shortly 🙂 .
