1. Lake Superior University has once again published a list of words/phrases they think should be banished from the Queen’s English…here’s the list for 2013 — fiscal cliff, kick the can down the road, double down, job creators/creation, passion/passionate, yolo (an acronym for you only live once), spoiler alert, bucket list, trending, superfood, boneless wings, and guru. Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Go here to read more about how the words were chosen.

I first heard the word “yolo” from my kids and my first thought was, what crap! Ya, sure, everyone knows we only live once but that doesn’t mean we need to go out and do the stupidest things just for an excuse to tweet about it! Duh!

2. When was the last time you rode a train? Where did you go?

We rode the overnight train from Rockhampton to Brisbane, Australia. It was quite an adventure. The train was practically deserted, at least the caboose that we were in, and it was pretty creepy when the attendant knocked on our door to check our tickets. We had the cabin with the bunk beds and the bathroom was miles away. I could’ve kicked myself for needing to pee in the middle of the night. Seriously creepy!!

3. Bagels – yay or nay? Favorite ‘flavor’? Favorite topping?

I love, love, love bagels. Cranberry is my favorite, toasted and topped with sinful blobs of butter. Did I mention I love bagels?

4. ‘Tis the season of awards shows…if you could star in a movie already made, which one would you choose?

I don’t actually know which movies won the Golden Globes or whatever. But if I could star in a movie, it would be (again) Roxanne simply because I’m in love with the beauty of Nelson, British Columbia where the movie was shot.

5. The move towards single gender classrooms has been making the news in recent months….what say you? Do you think kids perform better if separated by gender and are taught differently or is that discrimination? If you’re a parent, is this something you’d support in regards to your own children?

In a single gender class, there are definitely far fewer distractions. Back in the day, we never had any of the shocking things that apparently go on in co-ed schools these days. That said, kids need to learn how to interact in the real world and segregating by gender is not how the real world works. Sometimes we may have the best theories in the world but the question is, can they work in practice?

6. What’s your favorite thing about staying in a hotel?

All the services that a hotel provides plus fine dining.

7. Do you have a ‘word’ for 2013? What’s the story behind your choice?

Wow, one word, huh? Think I’ll go with “do”. Do your workouts religiously. Just do it (for times when I think too much). I like that “do” happens to go along nicely with “not”. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t eat so much. You get the idea 😆 .

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I need more sleep, period! 😛
