The thing about weekend shopping

Hitting the stores on the weekend has truly become a test of patience. Patience I do not have. My years as a WAHM with the flexibility to shop on weekdays has spoilt me. Now shopping on weekends only brings out the worst in me.

Today was the classic example. Skye needed a haircut. Knowing how busy Nick, our regular hair stylist, can be, we try to get there early. Apparently getting there a half hour after opening isn’t early enough. Any more. The salon was a hive of activity and we ended up waiting an hour.

Next stop, the bookstore where my girls bought a bunch of stationery. It was only at checkout that I realized my store discount card had expired. I broke out of the checkout line and headed for the card counter where there was already a short line. Wanting to speed things up, I asked the clerk for a renewal form and filled it out while waiting.

When my turn came, she told me to take the form to checkout to pay before coming back to her counter to get my card processed. So why couldn’t she have told me this earlier when I was asking her about the renewal form?!! Why did she have to make me wait 20 whole minutes to send me back to checkout?!! 👿

I mean what can I say! It would be pointless to argue with someone like that, right?! So off I went back to checkout and got in line (a very long line, I might add). The clerks there work like snails and this bookstore clearly isn’t about efficiency!

A woman and her 3 little boys were right behind me, barely 2 inches away. I can’t say this often enough, some people have no concept of personal space whatsoever!!! Pretty soon, her sons were pushing against me, hugging my thighs and jabbing my arm with their books and stationery while she chose to ignore them.

Not a beep from this dear woman even when I glanced back to see what the heck she was planning to do about it! Exactly as I expected, her eyes were downcast and she was pretending not to notice! So never mind, I get that this is the norm here.

Last stop, the grocery store to pick up a few things. These days, I do a big grocery run once a month and on the weekends, I just do a quick top-up. The girls and I usually split up the shopping list so we can get out of there fast. So we’re off running in different directions, grabbing stuff and throwing them into our cart.

The lines at checkout were long today! So what else is new? Again the man behind me is pushing his cart close enough to make contact with my butt as if that’s seriously going to get him through checkout quicker. Bit by bit, he inches up until he has me ‘locked’ in the narrow checkout aisle as I’m signing my credit card slip. 👿 I give up! So much for personal space!

The store is only 15 minutes from our home but it took us 3 hours to get through a haircut, a quick lunch, the bookstore and groceries. Duh!

How did your weekend go? Hope your weekend was better than mine 😀 .

Okay, I had to laugh about the kids jamming all up into your space. You know what I just love? I love when kids are being annoying like that and then when you look back, their mom is texting. Eyes not on the kids (who are jamming all up into other people’s spaces) but on her phone screen. Ugh!!! Bothers me!

I am the mom to nine, and you know something about having nine? You feel like you are under the microscope whenever you go out and about…because people see all the kids and assume you can’t control them or you let them run amuck. So I have to be very diligent in making sure my kids are the best behaved in the store….lest someone should see my brood and think that I should not have had so many if I can not control them. I control them fine, thankyouverymuch! LOL

I saw your link on the Not So Moody Monday blog hop. I’m your newest follower! Hope you have an amazing week 🙂

I think that would have driven me mad. You’re right, people don’t often know their own space and it’s so rude when parents just look away or don’t acknowledge that their “perfect” children are actually being a nuisance.

So funny – – I also feel like I can’t stand to be in the mall on a weekend or the grocery store on any time but a weekday or weeknight – lol…

Just stopping by to see what’s new! 🙂

    Hi. Thanks for stopping by.
I took my husband grocery shopping with me and the youngest two this weekend. He said, “Hey..that was a quick shopping trip.” Yes, Dear. It is truly amazing how fast the shopping goes when there is someone there to HELP!!
    (He’s a keeper though!)
After that I pretty much holed up at home so I could have my space violated by my own flesh and blood.
