My favorite drink, hick!

Okay, I lied. You can drink a ton of this and you won’t get drunk. A little light-headed maybe! Because it’s so so so refreshingly cool and light.

I’m talking about coconut water.

I couldn’t resist buying a tub over the weekend. The young coconut is usually sold as a whole fruit with the top of its hard shell peeled off. You can then put a straw and a spoon through the opening and scrape the flesh from the inside of the fruit itself.

But sometimes they transfer the entire fruit – juice plus flesh – into a tub like this so you don’t have to cart home the entire coconut. The shell can be pretty big and heavy, and frankly who has the space for it in the fridge or the trash bin afterwards?

When the weather is hot like now (we’re hitting 95, folks!), chilled coconut water is a drink from heaven! One sip sends a slightly sweet, cooling meteor shooting directly into the pit of your stomach. I’m not kidding! And then there’s that soft, silky flesh that I so love to slurp. Delicious!

It seems coconut water is high in potassium and its health benefits include regulating blood pressure by counteracting the effects of sodium and replenishing the body after exercise, sorta like a sports drink. So light, pure and refreshing, hmmmm!

Have you tried coconut water? How do you like it?

I love coconut water! We use to drink it all the time as a kid. You can always get them at the local asian market with the coconut in them. Delicious!

I don’t know of a place that I can buy coconut water with the flesh, too, in a “tub”. What a find.
I drink coconut water everyday – – it’s so good for you and it tastes so good that my body actually CRAVES it!! 🙂

I haven’t tried coconut water, but I am curious because I’ve heard about the health benefits. I would love to try fresh coconut water though, I think the packaging flavor of the juice box type might put me off.
