Two down, seven to go!

So our entire household was woken up with a start by the phone ringing at 7:30am in the morning. We’re usually up late Friday nights, so 7:30am on a cool, rainy Saturday morning is considered to be unearthly. Our old and dear friend and family are in town and want to come over and visit with us.

Since we were already up early, we decided to make a trip downtown to get some Christmas shopping done. I know, I know. I swore I wasn’t going to write another post about shopping so soon. But this time, we have a legitimate reason to shop.

The challenge is that this is our first real experience shopping for Christmas gifts. We don’t (as a rule) celebrate Christmas but this time we’re going to be spending Christmas in CA with our new friends, and how often is that? That’s right, so I’m thinking it would be nice to bring gifts for everyone 😉 .

But inspiration rarely comes on an empty stomach. So we quickly found ourselves stepping through the bright red door of a Chinese restaurant. We ordered noodles with crispy pork, rice with barbecued pork and a variety of dimsum (steamed dumplings in bamboo baskets).

The food was cold, service was hiccup-y and they served us the cuts of meat with mostly fat which got us needlessly discussing the alli reviews we’ve read. But by the time we rolled out of there and into the crowded mall, we had recharged our energizer batteries and were ready for the hunt.

I wish I could say we did well. But do you have any idea how hard it is to shop for 4 adults and 5 teens? Yes, teens are the hardest to shop for, bah humbug 😯 ! After 3 hours, we ended up with a t-shirt for one of the dads and a lovely bracelet for his teenaged daughter. That’s 2 down and 7 to go!

Seven, are you kiddin’ me??!! Heeelp! If you have any bright ideas for Christmas gifts, I’d really like to hear them. Seriously!
