What to wear?

Raine’s high school graduation ceremony is coming up and the big question is “what should I wear, Mom?”. The event is going to be held at a local college where the graduating class will be going up on stage, one by one, to receive their scrolls and bouquets.

Word is the ‘cool’ girls will come dressed in these sorts of outfits – in the likes of spaghetti straps, strapless short tight cocktail dresses…

which, if you ask me, are hardly appropriate for a school event. Is it just me or are high school/college girls, heck, even some little girls, getting more slutty every year?

A very small handful of the girls are saying they will opt for smart casual wear which, I certainly think, will be more fitting. Then again, it’s left to be seen how many will actually show up wearing ‘lame’ outfits like these.

Raine doesn’t want to wear a ‘cool’ outfit. She’s too sensible for that. Thing is she doesn’t want to stick out like a sore thumb either if no one else turns up in a ‘lame’ outfit. My suggestion is to wear whatever she feels comfortable with, never mind what everyone else is wearing.

What do you think? What would you advise your daughter to wear to her high school graduation ceremony?

I’m with you~ I think those cocktail-type dresses aren’t appropriate. I love the outfits you picked in the second picture… I dread the day when my daughter is at this stage (she’s only 2 now…)! What on earth will girls be wearing in 14 years?! Scary thought…

when I graduated from high school it was HOT, we all wore shorts and tshirts under our cap and gowns. Would a nice dress, age appropriate be good?
