how to save money at the movies?

Me and the kids have been watching a number of movies lately. Okay, we’re movie freaks! We love going to the cinema but that can get pretty expensive for the 4 or 5 of us. So mostly we try to watch movies at home where we can pretty much just spread ourselves out all over the living room and crunch snacks till we pop.

But when we do go to the cinema, there’s a couple of things we do to save money:

Go on a day when they’re offering special rates. Even better, these are usually the slow days when you practically have the whole cinema to yourself πŸ˜† .

Bring our own bottled water and snacks. Well, okay, you may have to smuggle it in depending on what kind of monsters you meet at the gate.

I’m slow today, can’t think of any more. Got any of your own movie-going tips to share?

save the animals and you could be saving someone you once knew

Now for a bit about the charity I’m blogging for. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA is right there in the middle of fighting abuse of our furry friends. Animal cruelty happens every day and just because animals don’t look like us and in many ways, don’t behave like us, it doesn’t mean they don’t have a right to live and be treated with respect.

I’m a believer in karma. And with karma, you just never know if that poor little cat or dog could be someone you knew and loved from a previous life? So ya, think about that. If they’re not being treated right, wouldn’t you want to be there for them? That’s how I look at it anyways.

If you’re in any way inclined to help out these poor abused or abandoned animals, please click here to pledge your support. Every little bit counts.

the spoils

The girls and I went groceries yesterday as planned and we had a blast picking out our snacks. Let’s see what we ended up with – 2 big tubs of yogurt, 15 bottles of cultured milk in our favorite flavors, bananas for the banana split we’re planning to make later, 10 packs of chips to go with my guacamole dip.

Doesn’t seem like much but our pantry is already jam-packed with other goodies and the essentials of milk, coffee and tea. We’ve just had a giant cup of Starbucks coffee so that should keep us going for a while, I think πŸ˜† . Is the Blogathon designed to make us fat? I wonder πŸ˜‰ .

and a-bloggin’ we will go… for the next 24 hours!

Woo-hoo and we’re off… 24 hours of non-stop blogging for the ASPCA. I’ve spent the day trying to think of a theme to use this year and well, I’ve decided to go with a parenting theme. Seems appropriate seeing that this is my mommy blog… but on and off, I’ll try to throw in a couple of posts about animals and their parents since I’m blogging for the ASPCA. Sound like a plan? Definitely πŸ˜‰ !

our plan for Blogathon night

our plan for Blogathon night

I can’t wait to go grocery shopping. The girls and I have got a hundred snacks in mind to stock up for Blogathon night this Saturday, and I’ll be making us a big bowl of guacamole. I’m sure there’s a couple more things. I just can’t think of them right now.

Though blogging into the wee hours does give you a monstrous appetite, once we get down to churning out one blog post every 30 minutes, I doubt we’ll have time to be running down to the kitchen to snack much. Ack, but we’ll need to stretch our legs, right? so I’m sure we’ll find excuses to pig out!

Tomorrow the girls will be creating some space in their room so we can lay out our laptops either in a line or a circle. Since there isn’t going to be Blogathon radio like in 2007, Steev will set up the song playlist for us. Of course, the girls have the option of turning to their Mp3 players if they don’t like my kind of music πŸ˜† .

Well, the ‘thon is just over a day away and there’s no hiding our excitement. Listen, if you’re feeling generous, please sponsor me in my effort to help the ASPCA fight cruelty to animals. It’s all for a good cause. I’ll do the donkey work, you just have to drop some money to the ASPCA kitty (ooh, a pun πŸ˜‰ !). If you’re at loose ends Saturday, I’d love for you to stop by and hang out with us as we keep those posts rolling for 24 hours non-stop.

6 days to go and I need sponsors!

6 days to go and I need sponsors!

Blogathon 2009 is this Saturday. That’s six days to go, I had no idea it’s this close. You know what? That makes me both excited and excited at the same time. How’s that πŸ˜† ?

Well, I’m excited because I’ve waited a whole year for this event because this staying up all night cranking out blog posts is so much fun. There, I’ve violated every grammatical rule in the book with 2 becauses in one sentence.

Of course, my girls will be staying up with me to blog so it’s going to be wild! We’re going to have plenty of snacks and drinks on hand, yeah, something like having a full tank of gas and an rv extended warranty to keep us up and running all night.

And I’m excited in a panicky sort of way too because I need sponsors… desperately!!! I’m not picky about the amount so if you’re inspired in any way to do your bit for poor helpless animals, please make your pledge here and then make your donation directly on my ASPCA page. It’s as simple as that, and then you’re pretty much done with your good deed for the month πŸ˜‰ .

One more thing is I haven’t figured out what theme to use this year. I need a theme because the last thing I need is to run into blogger’s block at 3am!! Ack!! Tick-tock, tick-tock, gotta put on me thinking cap!

looking out the window

have you done a good deed lately?

Woo-hoo, I received a pledge from Barb D, my first sponsor for Blogathon 2009 today! I always knew I could count on you, Barb, thanks and hugs!

Fifteen days and counting… to Blogathon 2009 on July 25 and I’ll be staying up to blog for 24 hours straight to help raise money for ASPCA, my favorite charity. If you have a soft spot for animals and would like to do your good deed for the month, please consider sponsoring me… pretty please with a cherry on top πŸ˜› .

You can either make your pledge here or use the Blogathon button on the top of my sidebar. Your donation goes straight to ASPCA (not to me) to help fight cruelty to poor, helpless or homeless animals. A noble deed, yes! Be as generous as you want. Any amount that you can afford will be appreciated. Like I always say, no good deed is ever too small.

My 3 kids will be staying up with me to blog. They enjoyed themselves so much the last 2 years, they just can’t wait to do it again. It’s a great opportunity to teach your kids that charity begins at home. I often get my kids to donate a little something from their kitty (it doesn’t have to be much) to charity. It’s amazing what big smiles the smallest of good deeds can bring out.
