Look who’s wearing my suit

Raine is taking a Public Speaking class at college this semester. I’m so excited for her because it was one of my favorite classes in college too. In fact, she’s preparing her first 2-minute speech, even as we speak.

What’s even more exciting is that she has to dress up in a suit. Pretty cool, huh? As I was rummaging through my collection of suits from my corporate days, I couldn’t help but smile. My sweet baby in a suit? Who would’ve thought?

I mean, when I was wearing them to work, she was just a toddler playing with her Lego and reading fairy tales, and now she’s going to be wearing my suit jacket and standing up there in front of her class, giving a speech!!

In a few years, she’s going to be sitting in her office with one of those fancy desk name plates on her shelf. What a proud day that’ll be! It’s amazing how quickly kids grow up. So hug them and kiss them every day, and take your time to enjoy them because before you know it, they’ll be wearing your suit.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Just when I thought this entire week, aka the week before Christmas, aka my favorite time of the year, was headed for the dumps, well, long story short. After a super-stressful week, a silver lining appeared.

Skye, my budding 15-year-old canine psychologist and sous chef, made straight A’s in the major exam she took in October this year. That’s 7 A’s straight without attending a single hour of tutoring. I think that’s really something!

And lest you think I’m some tiger mom who cracks the whip on my kids, drowns them in books all day with no breaks, deprives them of the joys of childhood and inspires them by calling them garbage, let me confess that I’m far, far from being one. I don’t do any of that and they still come out with straight A’s, all 3 of my kids *roar* !

Steev and Raine also did really good in college this semester and I guess all of this has me strutting around like a peahen! Peahen? No, we’re having turkey and it’s not going to be one of those rip-off store-bought ones. I’m going to roast the turkey myself complete with potatoes, brown gravy, the works. Oh yeah!

Okay now, our nails are all done up and we are so ready for the holidays ! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my lovely readers, tweeps and followers!

Late Sunday Shopping – Stocking stuffers and gift ideas for guys

Sunday Shopping: Stocking stuffers and gift ideas for the girlie teen

Sunday’s the day I go window-shopping and this week, I found some stuff worth going goo-goo-ga-ga over. If I were 18 again, these would be my picks of gifts to receive this Christmas from Mom and Dad, or whoever *shrug*.

Doin’ her mama proud

Oh, by the way, did I mention that at the book sale, we had to park far away and hop on a shuttle bus to get to the building where the sale was at? The bus ride was a blast but that’s another story .

The bus coming back was crowded with families carrying bags and boxes of books. We managed to secure seats but they filled up fast. When a mother carrying her baby came on, Raine stood up and offered her seat to her.

On the bench opposite us, there was another mother with 2 toddlers who had an extra seat on which she chose to “seat” her bag of books instead. That seat could easily have gone to the mother with the baby, no?

So am I a proud mama? You betcha .

Junk or treasure?

Remember I mentioned in an earlier post that my girls did a bit of cleaning up. I was thrilled, of course. Tell me which mom wouldn’t love for her daughters to do the cleaning without her lifting a finger? In my case, I even got a bonus. Skye found this little baby sitting at the bottom of her drawer. Darling, isn’t it?

I wonder if she’s got any other treasures, a michael kors watch maybe, lurking in there somewhere . Apparently Skye doesn’t quite consider this a treasure. I love collecting junk, she confesses with a cheeky grin. Would you consider this junk or treasure?
