We got to eat, right? But how do we keep that grocery bill from blowing itself to Mars? Here are some tips:

Use grocery coupons.

Stock up on items that are on sale.

Make a list of non-essentials and wait for the sale.

Don’t buy on impulse. Make a shopping list and stick to it.

Now it’s your turn. Feel free to share your tips.

how to save money at the movies?

Me and the kids have been watching a number of movies lately. Okay, we’re movie freaks! We love going to the cinema but that can get pretty expensive for the 4 or 5 of us. So mostly we try to watch movies at home where we can pretty much just spread ourselves out all over the living room and crunch snacks till we pop.

But when we do go to the cinema, there’s a couple of things we do to save money:

Go on a day when they’re offering special rates. Even better, these are usually the slow days when you practically have the whole cinema to yourself  .

Bring our own bottled water and snacks. Well, okay, you may have to smuggle it in depending on what kind of monsters you meet at the gate.

I’m slow today, can’t think of any more. Got any of your own movie-going tips to share?

cool, coordinated and ready for sea and sun

The sun is out and it’d be great to get out of the house. If you’re mom with kids headed for the beach or a pool party, you wanna check these out.

Confession, I’m a sucker for coordinated collections. I learnt early on that since I have so much stuff to lug around when I go swimming with the kids, I’d better have everything in matching design so I can easily recognize my stuff.

I’m gonna need a Crazy Daisy Large Tote for all our swimming gear and a fresh change of clothes.

Knowing us, one bag won’t be enough for all our stuff. So my teen princesses will have to have their own Crazy Daisy Backpack.

And of course, we’ll need a Crazy Daisy Double Handle Cosmetic Case for all our creams, sun block and stuff…

… and a waterproof Crazy Daisy Shower Caddy for our 101 little bottles of hair shampoo, conditioner, body shampoo and hair brushes.

Not forgetting a Crazy Daisy Large Cooler for drinks and snacks. Having fun can make you extremely hungry, I can vouch for that  !

Did I miss anything? Or anyone? Oh ya, our macho-macho guy wouldn’t wanna be seen in anything so sissy now, would he? Guess it’ll have to be this Check It Out Boy’s Towel & Sling Backpack.

Neat, eh? By the way, if you’re as big a sucker for coordinated collections as I am, I found these at Room It Up! They also have the coolest stuff for spring break and graduation gifts with free shipping on orders above $60.

Sunday at Midvalley

I try to avoid Midvalley at all cost on the weekend. I don’t quite care to waste my precious weekend acting like some sort of hungry vulture circling the basement parking endlessly trying to swoop in on a vacant parking spot when clearly there are NO vacant parking spots to begin with.

My only excuse for going to Midvalley last weekend was that I had this darned Metrojaya voucher to use before it expires this week! I’ve been meaning to buy a handbag and there’s lots of handbags at Metrojaya so it shouldn’t be a problem, right? Wrong.

Turns out we went from the bags section to the ladies’ to the shoes and up to the men’s department, came back down to the bags section, then to the accessories to the ladies’, well, you get the picture and I just couldn’t make myself fall in love with any of the bags there.

It’s got to be love at first sight,  you know, or it’ll never work out. Well, love don’t come easy, like they say. Luckily we’d sent DH and Steev off to read magazines at MPH earlier. If they’d tagged along, it would’ve put even more pressure on us.

Anyways after 2 hours, I finally settled on a black Beverly Hills Polo Club shoulder bag with multiple pockets and “brass knuckles hanging from my neck and my chain” like that song by Good Charlotte.

I’m not really crazy about the design. But under the circumstances, I thought, better close one eye and just grab it since it’s at 80% off, though the sign said 50%.

The girls think the bag is cute. I think it’s ugly. But then I’m notorious for making fashion statements out of my ugly handbags  .

blogging in my car

I’m parked outside Raine’s tuition teacher’s house. My car CD is blaring. There’s a lovely evening breeze blowing and I’m blogging on my laptop.

It’s a one and a half hour wait but it’s quite a long way from my house. Instead of going home now and picking her up later, I figured why waste gas, I might as well stick around and use the time to blog. Seriously.

what’s for lunch this week?

I’ve been cooking up a storm all week. All in an effect to cut cost now that everything’s so expensive. Thankfully my kids didn’t complain. They even said this has been the best week in lunches.

I made chicken pot pie on Monday. The kids loved it so much that they did an encore. So on Tuesday, I was at it again making chicken pie for the second day in a row.

On Wednesday, I made two types of pasta like I usually do. Steev and I prefer spaghetti olio but the girls like spaghetti bolognaise. So I always make both types.

I had some leftover pie filling from Tuesday so that was perfect for another small batch of chicken pies. I also made a tuna pasta for my big eaters.

Today I made pan-fried fish fillet with buttered rice. I’ve never made buttered rice before. It just hit me like a stroke of lightning so I decided to go with it.

What’s on next week’s lunch menu? I don’t know yet  . We’ll see.
