Nosing around the neighborhood

This is quite the busy weekend, most of it spent looking around the neighborhood for Tyson who has cleverly figured a way to beat the gate and escape into the big bad world out there. The gate is there for his own good, to keep him in so he doesn’t go missing…

… like our friend’s beagle that broke free and was never seen again and our friend has been wondering ever since if there’s such a thing as graded benefit life insurance for dogs . But Tyson being the incredibly brilliant beagle that he is (yes, I’m amazed!) is perpetually planning new and more creative escapades.

Yesterday when we discovered him missing (again!), it was just starting to storm outside. We split up in different directions to look for him. The fierce lightning flashes and rolling thunder didn’t help as we took off on foot and later decided to jump in the car to speed up the process.

We found him on the road behind our house happily sniffing the tires of parked cars without a care in the world. Huge sigh of relief!

The great escape

On a regular day, Tyson, our not-so-baby-anymore beagle, is so adorable you just want to pinch his non-existent cheeks. Our little sleepyhead still snoozes like a baby, either curled up into a ball or stretched out like a leg of ham. If anyone needs the best eye cream for dark circles, it’s definitely not him!

Some days, he figures he’s a guard dog. Once when a chow-chow passed by, he ran straight out to confront him! Said chow-chow was at least twice his size but Tyson is fearless. He ran after chow-chow and told him in no uncertain terms to “get out the heck out of his territory or else”! Chow-chow bumbled away without a word.

One night, Tyson figured he’d have himself a little adventure while we were downtown for dinner. This naughty little beagle found a small hole that he could squeeze through and bolted out into the neighborhood. We were away for 2 hours and that’s how long he was wandering the unfamiliar streets all by his lonesome with no way of getting back into the garden.

When we turned the corner to our home, our headlights fell on a small four-legged figure standing astride in the middle of the street, trying to look brave, the silly baby. We could see how relieved he was to see us and to be let back into the safety of his little garden!

The next morning, we woke up and Tyson was gone. Again!! At 7:30 on a Sunday morning?!! By the time the girls got dressed, he’d completed his rounds of the neighborhood and was waiting outside the door for us! Hmmph, this behavior is definitely not on!

But just look at this innocent face. How can we be mad at him for long?

Bad to the bone

Undoubtedly even when we were on vacation, the girls didn’t forget Tyson and pretty soon, we went in search of gifts for our little beagle. Okay, so he isn’t that little any more. I know it’s been some time since I last posted a picture of him (coming soon, wait for it).

But if you saw him now, you might even believe we’ve been feeding him hgh. Indeed he’s quite the strapping ladies’ man beagle and here are the toys the girls bought him.

As of last week, he has chewed his cool new “Bad to the Bone” collar to shreds, just like he’s done to all his other collars. Time to get him a chain collar, let’s see him chew through that!!

Catching up with Tyson

While her older sister was on the lookout for shoes (and more shoes!), Skye’s had her eye on dog training books.

Yup, she misses Tyson, our pet beagle, back home and she’s set on “telling him personally” how much she’s missed him while we’re here on vacation. Hmm! I’m sure those two will have lots to “talk” about when we get home.

We got home from errands and Tyson followed us into the kitchen where Skye was enjoying a meal of roast chicken. Tyson’s sharp nose quickly told him there’s good food on the table and he stood up at the table hoping to get some .

He was so cute dancing around on his hind legs as Skye raised her hand to tell him to get down. He must’ve thought she had a chicken drumstick in her hand, the silly beagle! Skye tells me dogs stand on their hind legs to beg for food.

Look who just turned one!

So hard to believe Tyson’s been with us for a year now. He came to us when he was about 6 weeks old and yesterday he turned one! In this year, he’s gone from cute and playful… to super inquisitive and destructive… to more controlled and sociable now.

He looks forward to his evening walks to the park and visiting with his friends who live down the road. Before, he used to be intimidated by the bigger, less friendly mutts but now he feels he’s big enough to stand up to them .

Before, we used to worry that he would charge right out to the road and go missing. Now he seems to keep himself in check and even if he does wander outside for a quick sniff or two, he knows to turn around and come back home.

Just look at this cheeky face he puts on when begging for treats!

Well, he got a nice juicy fake bone for his birthday so you can bet those poor puppy dog eyes lit up like stars ! He got tired of his bone after one day. Now the girls stick treats into both ends of the bone and His Greediness is loving it again.

Happy Birthday, Tyson, we love you and though you’re such a little garden destroyer, we’re glad you’re one of the family!
