Just before school started, the girls and I baked their recess food – blueberry muffins and carrot cake. They’re tired of eating store-bought cookies and biscuits.

So what else is there to eat? None of my picky eaters have ever eaten canteen food in their school life. I don’t blame them. I’ve seen what canteen food looks like complete with flies a-buzzing, and frankly I wouldn’t eat it either  .

So we made blueberry muffins (recipe at my food blog)…

… and carrot cake.

Then on the first day of school, we found out their school hours got extended to 2:30pm on certain days of the week. Which would be fine if there was a lunch break and the teachers actually use the extra time to teach instead of leaving the kids to do nothing!

Don’t you just love how our schools come up with ‘brilliant’ ideas like this?! Talk about screwing up the children’s meal times instead of instilling the good practice of regular meals. Just brilliant!

So since there’s NO lunch break after their recess at 10:00am, I had to get up the next morning at 5:00am to fry some rice for the girls to bring for recess the next day. They need something substantial or they’ll have to starve till they get home at 3:00pm!

The next morning, I was up again at 5:00am to cook this… spaghetti with red sauce (recipe at my food blog).

Imagine I have to wrack my brains several times a week from now on, planning what to cook at 5 in the morning! As if moms aren’t busy enough as it is, rotten eggs to that!
