invited to a fullmoon party

I’ve been invited to a baby’s fullmoon party tonight which the kids and I pretty much enjoy. The fullmoon is celebrated when the baby reaches one month (which in the Chinese calendar is one cycle of the moon) old, a sorta greet-and-meet for friends and family to see the newborn.

Some couples prefer to hold this party at home for a more informal and casual atmosphere when everyone can go goo-goo-ga-ga over the baby at leisure. The ones at restaurants are more formal and also more restrictive and are usually for close family members if they decide to hold one.

I haven’t had a chance to go buy a baby gift yet and it’s getting late. So I might just save myself the shopping trip by giving the parents an ang pow (cash envelope) instead.
